Legal Information

Yeah, so my lawyer - the esteemed Cassius Montclare DuBois - took a look at the site and expressed some concerns. Concerns of a legal nature. See he thinks that certain people, I'm guessing folks like Scotty Bakula, might read something about themselves on the site and take issue with it. Cassius says to me that I should make clear the verifiability, or otherwise, of what I say here. I try to reassure him.

Cassius,

I say,

I know it's hard to take some of it in, but everything on this site is as real as you or I.

But he wasn't convinced. Finally, I cave. I figure Cassius knows the law the way I know how to put an explosive movie idea together. So I let him throw something together to put on the site. I only glanced through, but hey I dunno, maybe there's something in there you'd wanna read. My interest in legal matters doesn't extend much beyond what it takes to follow My Cousin Vinny.

Mattsplosion.com

1. The Mattsplosion website, henceforth referred to as website the first, is almost entirely fictional in content. In those cases where true material is referred to, it is the intention of the author to highlight the absurdity of the juxtaposed fiction, rather than to mislead the reader or to lend undue credibility to the fictional content.

2. The characters contained in website the first are either fictitious, and shall be referred to as character class the first, or are based on the public personas of well-known people, character class the second. The narrator character, Matt Evans, is dealt with in section 4.
2.1 The members of character class the first are in no way intended to resemble actual persons living or dead, except through their common humanity. Any further resemblance is coincidental.
2.2 Occurrences of members of character class the second are parodic in nature and are in no way intended to defame the persons depicted. The author has no knowledge of these persons, beyond what is publicly available, and makes no claim otherwise. These particular persons have been depicted, as opposed to persons of similar notoriety (henceforth referred to as character class the not featured), because of the author's penchant for their cinematic work (henceforth referred to as films that rock ass).

3. Certain entries in website the first are derived from homageable popular fiction (e.g. Star Wars, Contest). The references to other fiction are intended respectfully, are for humorous purposes, and are hopefully not too far removed from the spirit of the originals.

4. The character of Matt Evans is inspired by, though not completely based upon, the Australian thriller writer Matthew Reilly (4.1) and the prolific movie producer Robert Evans (4.2).
4.1 Matthew Reilly (MR) is the author of an excellent collection of fast-paced thrillers: Contest, Ice Station, Area 7, Temple, Scarecrow, Hover Car Racer and Seven Ancient (Deadly) Wonders. The creator of Matt Evans has attempted to capture and incorporate some quantity of MR's infectious unbridled enthusiasm for his work, as well as his love for fantastic situations in his thrillers. MR is also known to use the word explosive from time to time...
4.2 If you don't know who Robert Evans (RE) is then see and/or read The Kid Stays in the Picture. RE is one of the great characters of the film industry. His story-telling style has inspired some aspects of the form of Mattsplosion, and his casual mingling with the rich and famous is one of its main influences.
4.3 Resemblences to other individuals are coincidental.
4.4 Matt Evans is something of an idiot. This aspect of his personality is based on neither MR nor RE. This was included for the simple reason that it leads to more comedic situations than the alternative would.

5. In terms of inspiration, a tip of the hat is also due to Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories, as featured in Chappelle's Show. Pancakes.

6. Yes, the picture at the top of the page was ripped from the trailer for Miami Vice. If Michael Mann wants it back he just has to let me know. Unfortunately, embedding a looping file of Jay-Z's and Linkin Park's Numb/Encore on each page of the site proved infeasible.
